We are all familiar with Proverbs 6:6 which says, “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
This popular passage provides us with one particular trait of ants. What are some of the other traits that are unique among this, one of the lowliest of God’s creatures? The Proverbs passage refers to gathering food for lean times. What it doesn’t tell us, is that ants commonly cooperate with each other and collectively gather food. When one ant finds a source of food, he marks the trail on the way back to the colony. This trail-marking enables other ants find the same source of food and bring it back to the nest. Should an obstacle suddenly block the pathway to the food, the ants will randomly search for a new pathway to the food. Once an ant rediscovers the pathway to the food, he will mark a new trail and the harvest will continue. Successful trails are followed by more and more ants, reinforcing better routes and gradually finding the best path.
Other than gathering and storing food, what else do ants do for each other? As a group, they fight off their enemies and rescue captured ants. They groom each other and remove dangerous pathogens from the colony. A knowledgeable forager has been found to lead naïve nest-mates to newly discovered food. In learning from his experienced brother, the young ant obtains the necessary knowledge to gather food for himself. Ants are known to chip in to care for the eggs of as-yet un-hatched ants. Everything an ant does, is ultimately for the welfare of the whole colony.
What does this little biology lesson about ants have to do with Christians? Jesus may very well have been thinking of ant behavior when speaking about the Good Samaritan, the two greatest commandments, and the parable of the King inviting the Righteous into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Mark 12:28-31 discusses the Greatest Commandments, namely we should love God with everything we’ve got, and we should love our neighbor as ourselves. It’s rather easy to say that we love God with everything we’ve got…but what about the second part…that part about loving our neighbor as ourselves? And, exactly who is our neighbor? Is it the person who sits next to us at church?
Luke 10:25-37 tells us who our neighbors are. This passage describes the Good Samaritan. A lawyer asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?”
Jesus then told the lawyer about a man who was attacked by thieves. They robbed him, wounded him and left him for dead. When a priest spotted the wounded man, he crossed to the other side of the road and continued on his way. Likewise, a Levite also avoided helping out the man. Finally, a Samaritan took the time and effort to help the wounded man. Take notice that the Samaritan didn’t go to the Temple and put in extra money in the offering pan that was dedicated to helping the poor and needy. No, this man stopped, cared for the man’s wounds, and transported him to the nearest inn where he left money with the innkeeper instructing him to continue caring for the wounded man.
Once finished with his story, Jesus asked the lawyer, “Who was the neighbor to the man who fell among thieves?” The lawyer had no choice but to answer that the one who showed mercy to the wounded man was the one who was the neighbor. On hearing the lawyer’s answer, Jesus commanded him, “Go and do likewise.”
So, we Christians now know that our neighbor is anyone we run across, acquaintance or not, who is in need. Mark 12:28-31 tells us that one of the greatest commandments is to love our neighbor as ourselves, and then in Luke 10:25-37, Jesus commands us to do as the Good Samaritan did.
This principle is further reinforced in Matthew 25:34-40 where the King said to the Righteous, “Come you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, I had no clothing and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, and I was in prison and you came to me.”
A bit confused, the Righteous asked the Lord, “When did we see you hungry or thirsty? When did we take you in? When did we provide you with clothing? When did we care for you when you were sick or in prison?”
Quick to answer, the King said, “When you do those things for other people, you are doing them directly for me.”
Like it or not, we Christians tend to be rather anti-social. We rush out the door in the morning, work at climbing the corporate ladder, step on other people’s ambitions in order to get what we want, rush back home, close the garage door without even waving to our neighbors, and then hide in our homes until the next morning when we do it all over again. Yes, we go to church on Sunday morning to appease our conscience. We might even volunteer to help out of some church activities, but a record of regular church attendance does not even come close to satisfying God’s greatest commandment. According to scripture, fellow church members are not defined as our neighbors; they are our family. Who wouldn’t care for their own family? Even thieves and robbers care for members of their own families, and we know that thieves and robbers aren’t too likely to be invited to pass through the Pearly Gates. According to scripture, our neighbors are more accurately defined as strangers or people we barely know.
The ant which is among the lowest of creatures, blindly obeys God’s law of loving his neighbor. Yet we humans, who are the greatest of God’s creation, tend to make the conscious choice to ignore God’s law, all the while proclaiming that we love God with all our hearts.
It would be wise to remember that the way God expects us to love Him is to express that love by caring for our neighbors who are in need.

The Coin
I examined a coin one day. On one side was “heads,” and on the other side, “tails:” different appearances and different meanings, yet the same coin. That coin caused me to pause and it caused me to think. Each action I take, and each choice I make is like minting a new coin. On one side of the coin is how that choice affects me, and on the other side is how it affects others. While carefully flipping that coin in my hand, I asked myself, “What sort of coin am I minting today?”--Larry Tate

A Gift for my Wife
One day I found myself in the search of my life,
While trying to find the best gift for my wife.
What shall it be? I asked myself,
Should it be something to put on a shelf?
How shall it look? I’d like to get her something divine.
Should it be something that has lots of sparkle and shine?
I know the answer, said a friend while giving me a wink,
A husband can never go wrong by giving a gift of pink.
Alas however, my well-laid plans went awry.
She wasn’t happy at all when I gave her the pink eye.
While trying to find the best gift for my wife.
What shall it be? I asked myself,
Should it be something to put on a shelf?

A Bug's Life
I found myself at a pleasant stage of life as I was nearing the age of sixty-one. Long before, at the youthful age of twenty-one, I’d made bold plans to reach the age of a hundred and one. Knowing that a person’s health reflects what they eat, I determined in my mind to eat a diet composed of a healthy combination of bread, vegetables, fruit and meat. Just in case I overlooked anything, I took vitamins and minerals as if they were a life-ring. Consuming every good nutrient I could see, I had a head start in the control of my destiny. Exercise was important I had to admit, so I chose a daily jogging program with which to keep me fit.
For forty long years, I ate all the right foods and I ran like Forrest Gump. By following the laws of nature and having fun I felt assured that I would reach my lofty goal of the age of a hundred and one. Making sure nothing was ignored; I even attended church and worshipped the Lord.
I was reminded of the lowly little bug. Not having much intelligence the bug still follows the laws of God. By obeying the law of nature, he can’t possibly go wrong. By following his God-given instincts he lives a long life and stays strong. In his own way, the bug is worshipping the Lord.
At the age of nearly sixty-one, I was healthy as a horse and strong as an ox. I needed no doctors and never used a pillbox. I was proud of my wisdom and deft determination. To my sickly friends who weren’t very strong, I was quick to tell them where they’d gone wrong. “Observe the laws of nature,” I’d say. “And you can be as healthy as me.”
Then one ordinary and peaceful afternoon, a frightening wake-call interrupted my calm and healthy life. My heart was in trouble and possibly done. Off to emergency I went, wondering where the laws of nature had gone wrong. Bright lights were shining on me and my sickbed, as doctors and nurses hovered over me while scratching their heads. Embarrassingly I found myself undressed, and lots of wires were attached to my heaving chest. Drip lines were hung overhead, sending life-saving liquids coursing through my veins.
“Why did this happen to me,” I asked a nurse. “I’ve done all the right things, eaten the right foods and exercised my heart. And to top it all off, I regularly worship the Lord.”
“I’m so sorry about your predicament,” answered the nurse. “You’ve got a condition that your healthy lifestyle simply cannot overcome. The problem is in your genes. Unfortunately, your heart is subjected to family history.”
Protesting very loudly I asked, “Why did I bother living right since the age of twenty-one? Did I waste my time by exercising my heart? I may as well have spent my time eating potato chips and ice cream.”
“Oh no,” answered the compassionate nurse. “You were doing all the right things. Had you not eaten the right foods and exercised your heart, this condition may have hit you by the age of forty-one.”
Not satisfied with the nurse’s answer, I turned to the Lord and asked, “Why me, Lord? Why did you give me this wake-up call? I’ve done all the right things and followed the laws of God. I’ve eaten the right foods and I’ve kept my body trim. There isn’t a detail I’ve ignored. I’ve even attended church and worshipped you. Lord, I feel like you’ve thrown me a cruel curve ball.”
Did the Lord answer me while I lay in my bed? I don’t know, but the following thoughts came rushing through my head. “I’ve sent you many messages,” the Lord did say. “Through preachers and teachers I’ve shown you the way. The passages in my Word were directed right at you. You are living a bug’s life, from my point of view. Since you gave my messages no heed, I determined that a wake-up call is exactly what you need.”
“What’s missing?” I asked. “What have I ignored? I do what’s right. I even worship the Lord.”
“You’re thinking like a bug,” answered the Lord. “He follows the laws of nature, and in his own way, even he worships the Lord. Think about the messages that have gone right over your head. I gave you an important mission and a goal to work toward.”
“But I’m a Christian,” I protested. “And one of good accord. I regularly go to church and I worship the Lord.”
“You’re living a good life,” answered the Lord. “And there’s no doubt that you’ve been worshipping me. But there’s so much more I want from you. My universal mission, you have completely ignored. My son, church attendance does not a Christian make. Such short-sightedness causes my heart to ache.”
“Lord,” I asked. “What is the mission I must do? What can be more important than worshipping you?”
“Your mission is not inside the church house door. The life of a Christian should be so much more. If you truly want to worship me, outside the church building is where you ought to be. Winning the lost is the place to start. It isn’t likely that you’ll find lost and hungry souls inside the church house door. But my son, there’s even more. There’s plenty for you to do outside the church house door. Visiting the fatherless and widows should be your soul’s intent. They’re in great need of help and encouragement. Feed the hungry, give them a drink. They need your help more than you think. Many are in need outside the church house door. They need warmth and clothing and so much more. Visit the sick and even those in the prison ward. Then you’ll be serving the Lord.”
I lay there in my bed with surprise on my face. “Lord, I’ve ignored many of your teachings, perhaps all. Now I understand why you gave you this wake-up call.”
Just as I finished talking to the Lord, a doctor walked in with his face aglow. “Your heart’s much better now. I’m letting you go.”
Back home, I had a new perspective to dwell upon No longer was I obsessed with reaching the age of a hundred and one. Whether I make it to the age seventy-one or a hundred and two, I’ve got a God-given mission to do.
I will never forget that life-changing day, when a disturbing wake-up call came my way. My wake-up call came with an urgent message I couldn’t ignore. I was living a bug’s life—and not much more.

If Obama was an Exterminator
Suppose that Mrs. Jones were to call Obama the exterminator about a flea infestation. What would he do? First, he’d send his perfectly fine pick-up truck to the car crusher. Then, he’d go out and purchase an energy efficient electric car. Next, he’d set up an interview with Mrs. Jones regarding her alleged flea infestation. After determining that she had a legitimate flea problem, he’d begin developing a fool-proof flea eradication plan.
First, he’d closely scrutinize his circle of PETA friends, looking for the best person to handle the job. Then approximately nine months after the initial call from Mrs. Jones, he’d appoint a radical flea-caring activist as his Flea Czar. This highly paid Czar would be assigned to oversee the flea eradication program at Mrs. Jones house. He’d then make a passionate offer to the population of fleas in Mrs. Jones’ house, asking them to open up a line of diologue with no pre-conditions. If the talks were to break down, Obama would ask the United Nations to send in teams of inspectors to verify that the fleas’ intentions were of a peaceful nature. The fleas’ activities would have to be restricted to feeding only on the household mice and rats, and leaving the family pets alone. In the event that the fleas were to continue attacking the household cats and dogs, Obama would threaten to implement tough new sanctions against the fleas by removing the family pets from the house and insuring that no other cats or dogs would be able come on the property.
Should the above measures fail, Obama would set up a National Flea Health Control program with a mandatory public option. If Mrs. Jones felt that the services of private pest control companies were entirely too expensive, taxes would be levied on all Americans according to their income. After the National Flea Health Control program was fully implemented, Obama would arrange for end-of-life discussions to be held with Mrs. Jones’ defiant flea population. Once the fleas had been convinced that they had already lived a long and fulfilling life, they would be directed to check in at a local government-sponsored assisted suicide clinic.
After setting up his program, Obama would expect to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his brave innovations in the humane treatment of fleas.

Don’t bother me with the little stuff. I’m the President
- Our President doesn’t have a clue when it comes to the whereabouts of Air Force One, but on the other hand, he’s involved in approving every shot the military fires. The following transcript recently surfaced:
Secret Service: Pardon me, Mr. President, does it matter to you what we do with Air Force One?
Obama: (Obama lays the phone down). What are you talking about?
Secret Service: We would like to take it out for a photo-opt.
Obama: Why are you asking me?
Secret Service: Well Sir, I thought you would always want to know where Air Force One is at.
Obama: That’s what you get for thinking. I’m too busy attending to the people’s business to think about small matters like that. I’ve got important business to take care of.
Secret Service: What is that, Sir?
Obama: Don’t you realize that I’m the Commander in Chief?
Secret Service: Yes, Sir.
Obama: Okay. Then let me do my job.
Secret Service: What are you working on, Sir?
Obama: (Obama sighs). This is why I’m President and you’re not. I’m about to take out some Somali Pirates.
Secret Service: So you don’t care if we take it off the tarmac?
Obama: Take what off the tarmac?
Secret Service: Air Force One, Sir.
Obama: Oh, we’re still talking about that? I’m a delegator, son. Can’t you have a little discretion of your own?
Secret Service: We just don’t want to do something we’re not supposed to do.
Obama: Can’t you see that I’m on the phone doing urgent national security business?
Secret Service: I’m sorry, Sir. I’ll be quick. What about the fuel, Sir?
Obama: What’s it going to cost?
Secret Service: Oh, about $320,000.
Obama: Is that all?
Secret Service: Sir?
Obama: I’m just joking. Here, use this CITGO credit card that my friend Hugo Chavez gave me.
Secret Service: You don’t care where we’re taking Air Force One?
Obama: No, I trust you. Have fun. Now, leave me alone so I can take care of some very important National Security issues.
Secret Service: Yes, Sir. (Secret Service leaves the room).
Obama: (Obama picks up the phone). Sorry about the interruption, son. Do you have a good shot at those Somali Pirates?
Navy Seal: Yes, Sir. The rough seas have settled down. Should we shoot now?
Obama: Oh, good grief. No, don’t shoot now.
Navy Seal: Sir, we may miss our only opportunity.
Obama: How am I going to look to the American people if this seems to be as simple as a little more than back yard target practice? I am a President who solves catastrophes and impossible situations. I want this to look difficult, son. Do you understand?
Navy Seal: Yes, Sir.
Obama: Let’s wait until the seas are rough again. A good shot in high seas is what I want. Then I will be admired the way I should be.
Navy Seal: Okay sir, the seas are coming up again. Should we shoot?
Obama: How high are the seas?
Navy Seal: Eight feet and rising, sir.
Obama: Do you have a good shot?
Navy Seal: It’s difficult sir. Just as we get them in our crosshairs, we lose them again.
Obama: Now that’s what I want. Okay son, take the shot when you can.
Navy Seal: Yes, Sir. (Shots heard) Sir, we got them all. I don’t know how we did it, but we did.
Obama: Great, son. Now that’s what I call a rush. It’s really cool being Commander in Chief.
Navy Seal: What did you say, sir?
Obama: Never mind, son. Just transfer me to the ship's cook.
Navy Seal: The cook, sir?
Obama: Yes, the cook. I’m the President of the people. I want to be involved in every part of everyone's lives.

For Lease
One human life available for lease. Easy payment plan; Pay when you want; Pay how you want; Pay as you want. No late-payment fees or hassles. Valuable option which allows you to convert your lease to permanent eternal life is available. Contact the Lord your God today for details. The Lord your God is the rightful owner of your human life per legal document Psalm 24:1 The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein.
From birth, we are taught that ownership is better than leasing or renting. When you own something, no one can take it away from you. It’s yours until you decide to sell it. Consequently, everything you own, contributes to your total value. A 2001 survey of consumer finances by the Federal Reserve states that people who rent have a net worth of less than $5,000, while the typical homeowner has a net worth of a little less than $175,000. Hence, the life lesson taught to us from birth, is that owning is superior to renting.
So, we accumulate possessions: cars, homes, household goods, savings accounts, investments, etc. Each year, we take a look at our net worth and see how much it has grown. We look forward to those retirement years when we can live off of what we own. We feel pity for those who never realized the importance of ownership, and its benefits.
Ownership sounds like the ultimate answer to life’s challenges. You are in control of your possessions until you make up your mind to get rid of those possessions. Ownership makes sense from the human point of view. However, there is another vantage point you should consider. The human life is but a vapor in the grand scheme of things. From the vantage point of all human existence, there is no such thing as ownership of yourself, or your material possessions. The definition of Ownership is holding lawful claim or title to something. On the other hand, Leasehold involves an agreement between the owner of a certain asset, and a person who desires to temporarily possess said asset for a certain period of time and for a certain form of compensation. At the end of the lease, the possession of the asset reverts back to the lawful owner. When you pass from life to death, you lose possession of your life, and all assets you have accumulated. You do not have a choice in the matter. Consequently, you never actually own anything. You are merely leasing. Hence the well-known phrase, “You can’t take it with you.”
Every human being that has ever been born, has leased his life and possessions from God. All that we are, and all that we possess in this human life is of a temporary nature.
So, is there a purpose to your human existence? Actually, there is. As a matter of fact, there is something you can actually own and take with you after you pass from this human life. This involves the law of inheritance. To inherit something is to receive by law from another, at his death. When one inherits assets and possessions, that person is in ownership of those assets. There is something you can do that will have eternal implications and benefits, allowing you to inherit eternal life.
What can you do to convert our temporary lease on life to eternal life?
You should accept Jesus into your life. John 3:16 …whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
You should love God, and you should love your neighbor. Mat 22.37-40…Thou shalt love the Lord thy God …Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
How do you love your neighbor? Actions speak louder than words. Actions speak louder than your frame of mind. Jesus expects you to love your neighbor by what you do for your neighbor. Mat 25:34-40…Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you…For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
How do you show your love to God? By the way you help your neighbor. Ask yourself, “What do I want?” If you love your neighbor as yourself, you will know how to treat your neighbor. If you want salvation for yourself, you will share the Gospel with your neighbor, so that he might have salvation. If you want food, drink, clothing, health, comfort and friendship for yourself, you should give of these things to your neighbor.
Benjamin Franklin said that he believed that the most acceptable service to God was doing good to man.
You have a lease on life. Decide today, to accept the Option that God has offered you, and convert your temporary lease on life to eternal life.

Common Denominators
768/1024, 48/64, 3072/4096, 24/32, 1536/2048, 192/256, 96/128, 384/512, 6/8, 12/16
Numbers, numbers, numbers. Lots of numbers.
On closer inspection, one finds that they are all fractions. As a matter of fact – they are all the exact same number. All of those numbers mean ¾, or 75%. A myriad of mind-boggling numbers, which no one can remember; yet they all quite simply mean a number we can all relate to: ¾.
How can the principle of common denominators relate to the Christian experience?
The Bible contains 66 books, 1,189 chapters, 31,101 verses and 783,137 words. There are 1,260 promises, 6,468 commands, 3,294 questions, and over 8,000 predictions. Among those 783,137 words are a multitude of laws, rules, regulations, principles, precepts, concepts, and thoughts. Like the numbers shown above, all of these words can be overwhelming to even the most seasoned Christian.
Could it be that there is a common denominator hidden amongst all of those words? Thankfully, there is. Let’s look at the following passages:
Romans 10:9
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
John 5:24
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
John 1:12-13
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 6:28-29
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
Matthew 22:36-40
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
According to Romans 10:9, John 5:24, and John 1:12 the pathway to salvation is navigated by way of believing in Jesus. Then after Salvation, according to John 6:28-29, the work we are expected to do in life is believing in Jesus. Finally, according to Matthew 22:36-40, living up to the law is accomplished by loving God, and loving our neighbor.
That’s it! The entire Word of God can be reduced to one sentence, resulting in a Biblical common denominator. We are to Believe in Jesus, Love Him, and Love our Neighbor.
But wait, you say, what about our witness? Aren’t we supposed to win the world by spreading the Good News? Yes, of course. And that is included in the common denominator. How? If we believe in Jesus; if we love Him; if we love our neighbor as ourselves; then we can’t help but tell our neighbor about Him!
One final note: If you examine every concept, every precept, every law, every rule, every regulation, and every thought found in the Bible, you will find that they are all founded upon, and based upon Believing in Him, Loving Him, and Loving our Neighbor!

A Gift Freely Given
One day as I found myself adrift,
A stranger gave me a wonderful gift.
Deeply indebted, I thought myself to be,
After all, that lovely gift certainly wasn’t free.
Experience had taught me in the past,
To repay my debts, or I would be harassed.
Right away, I embarked on a mission and a quest,
To repay my benefactor, and get some guilt off my chest.
I was in a quandary, and I began to fret,
As I desperately tried to repay my debt.
But this gift was different you see,
It wasn’t borrowed. It was entirely free.
The freely given gift I thought the world of,
It was given to me through an act of love.
I had a gift which I couldn’t buy or sell or trade,
It was something that could never be repaid.
If I could return the favor, my spirits would surely lift,
But alas, I was forever indebted for that freely given gift.
What was that wonderful gift, you ask,
What was the gift I could never repay?
My life of sin carried a sentence of death you see,
But a man called Christ gave His very life for me.
The judgment against me had been mercifully waived,
The sinless Christ had provided a way for me to be saved.
Because of his love, I am no longer adrift;
And I’m forever indebted for His freely given gift.
What can I do, now that I’m forgiven,
To repay my Christ for His gift so freely given?
I can share the good news to others who are adrift;
So they too can accept Him, and receive the gift that is freely given.

As a matter of fact, if you saw it, you might say it is of another world. Well, guess what; it actually is of another world! All of the cities you have previously seen are built two-dimensionally; but not this city. This city is built three dimensionally! It is 1,400 miles long, by 1,400 miles wide, by 1,400 miles deep. The walls are made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. The twelve foundations of the city walls are decorated with every kind of precious stone. There are twelve gates made of twelve pearls, each gate of a single pearl. The great street of the city is of pure gold, like transparent glass.
Don’t bother packing for bad weather. There is no such thing as inclimate weather at this city. Every day is just as beautiful as the day before.
The accommodations are nothing short of spectacular! No budget motel room for you. Each and every traveler will be staying in his/her own mansion. Your mansion will be bigger and better than any mansion you ever dreamed of.
You will have the distinct pleasure of visiting with many historic figures in our past. They will share stories and experiences of their colorful lives. You will want to spend countless hours soaking in all that they have to say to you.
The number one attraction will be visiting with, and admiring the most revered historical figure of all time. You will soon agree that this one attraction will outshine all other attractions combined. As a matter of fact, you will probably never want to check out any of the other attractions after you have been exposed to this number one attraction.
There are too many sights and attractions to describe on this travel brochure. Just sign up today and be ready for the trip of your life.

The Greatest of God's Children
One day I heard a commotion outside my door.
The noise was great; more than I could ignore.
I opened the door to see what was the matter.
I saw a crowd—arguing, shouting, making a clatter.
The Preacher said, “I am the greatest; oh so devout.
I have a mighty calling, of which there is no doubt.
To guide and direct God’s flock, I do commit.
Surely, I and the Father are quite close-knit.”
“Now wait just a minute,” another voice squealed.
“The Preacher is great, but the Missionary is greater still.
He makes great sacrifice, going to a distant land.
He obeys God’s calling, can’t you understand?”
Another one yelled, “You both are wrong!
Teachers are God’s chosen and at His side they belong.
They explain God’s Word, line by line.
Teachers are important, necessary and divine.”
“Listen to me,” shouted the leader of Song and Praise.
His voice was heated and his eyes were ablaze.
“I prepare the congregation to hear God’s Word.
To think me not great, would be absurd.”
Another disputed, “God needs me; this I surely feel.
I take up large offerings with my eloquence and skill.
My job is very important; one I plan to keep.
The Church needs money, for supplies and upkeep.
The Nursery Worker could not sit idly by.
“I may not be the greatest, that I won’t deny.
But, I really love children; I can certainly assert.
So, I’m better than the Janitor. He just cleans the dirt.”
Minute by minute and hour by hour, it went.
No one could agree; that much was evident.
I heard from the Choir, and then from the Prayer Team.
But, the Musicians claimed that they were supreme.
There were Greeters, Youth Leaders and Yard Men.
Before one could finish, another would begin.
They grew louder and louder and louder still.
The neighbors came out just to hear them squeal.
I stopped an old man who came hobbling by;
Perhaps he had wisdom on which they could rely.
I told him about the arguing, so long and hard,
And, so much noise, right in my courtyard.
“Who is the greatest? They just can’t agree.
Do you have an answer? Can you be their referee?
Some of them are great, and some are small.
Sir, who among them is the greatest of all?”
The old man sat down, and began to speak.
“There once was a ship’s captain, so proudly unique.
He delivered merchandise to distant ports.
Fine linens, red rubies, diamonds and quartz.”
“He could read maps and follow the stars.
He loved to praise himself, and wrote his own memoirs.
His skills were important, he did report.
Without him, his ship would never reach that distant port.”
“Before sailing, He sat down to make his plan.
He spread out the maps, and began to scan.
But before he was halfway through,
He realized—he needed a crew.”
“He needed strong sailors to raise the sails.
Without them, his mission would surely fail.
The ship needed wind, he had to agree.
Without sails, he would just drift in the open sea.”
“But what if the wind subsided, not blowing at all?
Without wind, the heavy boat would surely stall.
He must have men to row the boat, as a last resort.
Without strong men, he may never reach that distant port.”
“Might one day he step on deck, with his face aghast?
After a storm has torn the sails and broken the mast?
Skilled carpenters and repairmen, he must court,
If he hoped to reach that distant port.”
Then he thought, “There is one job I can’t overlook.
It’s a very long journey, I may need a cook.
If sailors are hungry, the mission may abort.
Then I would never reach that distant port.”
“While making his plans, he saw a rat.
He realized right then that he needed a cat.
The cat must catch the rat before it eats the food,
If the crew gets hungry, they’d be in a bad mood.
“When his plans were finished and through,
He knew he needed talented and skillful crew.
If he grew stingy and cut the crew list short,
His ship might never reach that distant port.”
“My friend, to you this day, I must report.
In order for a boat to reach a distant port,
Not one job can be the greatest of all.
And no task is considered small.”
When his story ended, the old man just stopped.
The crowd was so quiet, I could hear a pin drop.
He got up from his chair and shuffled away.
He had no reason to linger or stay.
Then I saw a sight that seemed so strange.
The attitude in the crowd began to change.
They ceased from clattering and shouting.
Instead, they began dancing and singing.
Those who before, only wanted to jeer,
They lifted their voices and began to cheer.
To those that once they did push and shove,
They began to express their love.
Pleasant smiles replaced scowls.
No longer were there any howls.
A great transformation was underway,
As the crowd dispersed and drifted away.
The old man’s story caused me to groan.
I went into my house and picked up the phone.
I called my church and asked what I might do.
To which I heard, “We have many jobs for you.”
“I’m so glad you’ve listened to God’s call.
Is your calling Great, or is it Small?”
I smiled when questioned, and quietly replied,
“Any task you give me, I will do with great pride.”
“The church has been chosen to spread the Good News.
Each task is important; I don’t know which to choose.
Any job you give me, whether it be Great or Small,
To God, it will be THE GREATEST OF ALL.”

I stopped an old man who came hobbling by;
Perhaps he had wisdom on which they could rely.

What Do I See?
I opened up our album,
And what did I see?
A youthful picture of you and me.
When I turned the page,
A different picture, I did see.
Instead of two, I saw three
Then I turned another.
Were there really more?
Sure enough, I saw four.
Time continued to travel on.
One child grew up, didn’t she.
On the next page I saw only three
We didn’t stay three for long.
For, married he was to be.
Again, it was just you and me.
The years continued to march by.
Turning several more pages, what did I see?
I saw a much older you and me.
Over the years, we took on each other’s traits.
I became you, don’t you see?
And you became me.
Now, we are one and the same.
When I see myself, I also see thee,
When I see you, I also see me.
Could I imagine a life without us two?
I turned another page and what did I see?
A blank page, showing neither you, nor me.
If it weren’t for you to share my life,
I’d only be a blank page.
Nothing to see, nothing to be.
My love, if I don’t have you,
I also don’t have me.

You Are Always With Me
Whatever I do, and wherever I go,
You're always with me, this I surely know.
In everything I see, and everything I do,
I can't keep myself from seeing you.
When all is secure, and the birds break into song,
I feel your comfort and assurance all the day long.
As the sun bathes me in it's warmth and glow,
Your love and consolation warms my soul.
When admiring the Oak tree,
I feel your unmoving love soothing me
Like a pet whose faithfulness is unheard of,
You are always ready to serve and to love.
Nothing matches the beauty of flowers on display,
Until I see the delicate loveliness you express everyday.
As the ever-extending fingers of grass make a law complete,
You spread your grace and mercy to everyone you meet.
Like a sparkling diamond so perfectly reflecting the light,
Everything coming from you is quite a delight.
The multitude of stars, twinking through the night,
Is a reminder of your infinite goodness, and wonderful insight.
Like the moon, which guides me in the dark of night,
You are a beacon and my torch light.
All of nature reminds me of you,
This much is very true.

I resolve...
Now is the time when I hear people say, “I’m making a New Year’s Resolution. I’m going to eat right starting tomorrow (but today, I’m going to binge like never before). Beginning on January 2nd, I’m going to exercise everyday (but today, I’m not going to get off the couch). With this New Year, I’m going to watch my spending habits (but today, I’m going to take advantage of the year-end sales and buy everything in sight). With this New Year, I’m going to drink less (but with football going on all day today, all bets are off).
Any time I hear someone say, “I’m making a New Year’s resolution, and I’m starting tomorrow,” I know that their stated resolve won’t last one week, much less a year. The first thing wrong with a New Year’s resolution, is the fact that a person has to wait for a specific calendar day to make that resolution. A true resolution will be made immediately when a person realizes that the former activity is detrimental. A true resolution will be acted upon immediately, not at some point in the future. A true resolution will be monitored on a regular basis, and kept at the forefront of a person’s mind.
So, with this Old Year coming to an end, and a New Year coming around the bend, I resolve to never make a New Year’s resolution. In its place, I will closely monitor my life throughout the year, making corrections when corrections are needed. I will not burden myself with worries about past activities that I cannot change. Instead, I will boldly walk into the future, using wisdom and knowledge from the past to guide me around obstacles that once tripped me up.
I resolve to not make resolutions lightly, but to make resolutions that will mold and shape my life as it should be.

Memorable Quotes
Andrew Carnegie
There is no use whatever trying to help people who do not help themselves. You cannot push anyone up a ladder unless he be willing to climb himself.
Plato
We are twice armed if we fight with faith.
He who is of a calm and happy nature will hardly feel the pressure of age.
One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.
Socrates
Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers.

Under the Shade of a Tree
Some called you my little four-legged friend. Others called you nothing more than my pet. But, you were so much more than that to me. You were my love. Yours was an unconditional love; an unwavering love; a devotion that could not be matched.
You wanted nothing out of life but to be near me. You would wait patiently for me to come home from my long day at work. Wherever I went, you would follow. While sitting on the couch, I could always find you nestled on the cushion right next to me; not just next to me, but always touching me. When I had chores and activities to do outside, you would always be at my side.
As the years came and went, you grew older, and you became weaker. You could no longer keep up with me when I was outside. Instead, you would lie down in the cool shade of a tree and watch my every move. Your eyes were always on me, never letting me out of your view.
You trusted me. You depended on me. I provided you with protection, food, shelter, and most certainly, my love. But, my love was never a match for yours. The level of my love would often come and go, depending on my circumstances, and on my mood. But, your love was always the same. Regardless of how you felt, you always had me in your sight; whether from the couch right next to me, or from the cool shade of a tree.
On your last morning, I wasn’t with you. When you passed on to the other side of life, you were alone. When I found you, your eyes were still open. You were still looking for me as your last breath was drawn. Your love for me would not permit your eyes to close, even as you struggled at death’s door. Until the very end, you held out hope that you would find me in your sight just one more time. Perhaps I could have saved you. Perhaps our eyes could have met just one more time. Your unconditional love for me was causing you to look for your master until the very end.
Your passing was one of the saddest chapters in my life. In your honor, I wanted to extend one last effort to care for you just as you cared for me. I buried you in the shade of a tree, so that you might forever be sheltered and protected from the heat of the relentless summer sun.
But even in death, you would not allow me be the final giver of love. You found a way to watch over me, and to love me from the other side of life. You see, a tree draws its very being and substance from the ground in which it has been planted. The soil, its minerals, and its nutrients transform themselves, and virtually become the tree. Over time, your body became food and nutrients for that tree. Over time, you became a part of that tree.
Your love for me would not allow you to stay buried in the ground, forever departed from your master. You found a way to continue looking out over the field, watching everything I do. You continue to give me more love than I could ever give back to you. You are no longer lying under the cool shade of a tree; you are creating the very shade that cools me as I stand and gaze down at your final resting place.
Now, every time I stand in the shade of a tree, I am forever reminded of you, and your unmatchable love for me.
